Rest is about saying yes.

Six days a week we say no to that extra helping of food, that second (or third) glass of wine, that ginormous piece of cake. We might say no to hanging out with our kids because we have to do that project. We say no to our friend’s invitation to a party because we’re exhausted from work. We say no to that fancy outfit we really want.

We say no because we want to be healthy or because it’s the right thing to do or because we have to. And that’s fine.

But one day a week, we rest from no. We spend time with our families. We spend our money. We eat three plates of food and four ginormous pieces of cake. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

Six days a week we say no so that one day a week we can say an extravagant yes.

(Interestingly, you could look at this the other way around. One day a week you say no to work, productivity, saving and healthiness. You could say rest is about saying no. That it’s about rules and regulations. But isn’t it better to look at it the other way around?)

What are you going to say yes to today?
