Today, we're officially opening the BW Writing Contest! But just in case you think you know what a writing contest involves, let me tell you that this is not your average writing contest.
A New Kind of Writing Contest

I've participated in a fair number of writing contests, and honestly, I've always left feeling disappointed. Even when my stories have done well, I felt like there was a barrier between me and the judges.
I could never understand why some stories did well, while others seemingly were passed over thoughtlessly.
When we decided to host a joint contest with literary magazine ShortFictionBreak.com, we wanted to create a different kind of contest.
A Writing Contest in Which Everyone Gets Published
That's why we decided to host a writing contest that was different in three important ways:
- A writing contest in which everyone who enters gets published
- A writing contest in which every writer who enters gets personalized feedback
- A writing contest in which every writer can get premium instruction to help them write the best story they're capable of
In other words, the BW Writing Contest isn't just about choosing winners and losers. It will help you become a better writer.
How to Enter the Writing Contest
Entrants are asked to write a new story up to 1,000 words long.
You will then workshop your story within the Becoming Writer community, getting personalized feedback to help you make your story better.
After workshopping your story within the writing group, you can you submit your story to the contest.
Judges from our partner literary magazine, Short Fiction Break, will then choose ten finalists and one grand prize winning story.
While all submitted stories will be published on shortfictionbreak.com, the top ten stories will receive a featured spot on the magazine, and the grand prize winning story will be published here on The Write Practice, live in front of our thousands of readers.

Hi again Joe. Sorry, but I’ve still had nothing. Any help appreciated or..sorry, refund. Thanks.
Never got a link for final submission? It seemed like everyone had posted final pieces to the thread for the contest…confused and hoping I didn’t miss out on the deadline?
I never got any link at all: money was taken from my account, I got an email confirming this but no link and no means of contacting anyone to query this or (as I now would) complain. I won’t be buying anything more from the Write Practice or their affiliates.
I searched this website and that of the short story com=nest for a way to ask for help/a link to submit my story, but found nothing. I have a receipt for payment but no link and no further emails from the story contest organisers.
I would appreciate a reply from the Write Practice, to any of those who have commented on this thread with the same issue that I faced.
Hi Selina. Just seeing this now. Was this taken care of you? If not 1) I’m SO sorry. Send me an email here, https://thewritepractice.com/contact, and I’ll make sure you’re taken care of in full.
