The Write Practice Needs Your Help

by Joe Bunting | 5 comments

The Write Practice needs your help to continue to exist.

Since 2011, my team and I have been sharing everything we've learned about writing, much of it for free. We've published 2,000+ free guides, built a handful of tools for writers, and given away 1 million+ eBooks and digital downloads. It's been an amazing honor, the best thing I've ever done (apart from my family).

But over the last two years, changes to AI and search, as well as economic things like stagflation, have put The Write Practice in a tough place financially. We went from 100s of people signing up for our paid programs to just 20 in our most recent launch of 100 Day Book, our most successful book writing program. As it stands now, I'm not sure we can continue to exist in the same way we have for much longer.

And listen, I know that right now is hard for everyone. Money is tight, the political climate can feel stressful, and why should you care about what some writing community is going through?

At the same time, I know there are many people who do care about this community, whose lives have been changed by what they experienced in our programs and through our content. I've talked to writers recently who have finally finished the books that they were struggling to write for years, people who launched entire writing careers or started new jobs as freelance editors, and even people who made lifelong friends.

The Write Practice is run by a team of writers based in five states and three countries, almost all of whom write their own books while they empower others to write theirs. This job gives them the flexibility and resources to create their own author lifestyles.

I don't want that to end. I really really don't want it to end.

So this is my plea. Can you help keep The Write Practice going?

How You Can Help

The best way to help is to sign up for one of our programs:

  1. 100 Day Book was supposed to close yesterday, but I'm leaving it open for a little while longer on the hope that we can help you finish your book this summer (and if this summer doesn't work for you, we can move you to a future semester, either in the fall or spring, if you let us know by replying to your receipt). This is an amazing program that has helped thousands of writers finish their books. We'd love to help you too. Check out 100 Day Book. (Sign up now or sign up for a future session.)
  2. Coaching. We coach writers and work with a team of certified coaches. You can hire us to work with you one on one (get a quote to work with a coach), or join a group like 1 Year to Publish (a life-changing coaching and editing program over the course of a year—it's really cool, you'll get so much out of it).
  3. Editing. We also do manuscript critiques and even proofreading. Get some editing.

P.S. As things stand, this might be the last time we launch 100 Day Book for a while, and when we next open it, we'll almost certainly have to raise the price. We've always tried to make our services as affordable as possible, but with the challenges we're facing we may not be able to operate in the same way in the future.

If you have other ideas of how you can help, please email me at joe@thewritepractice.com. Maybe you can think of something I'm not!

Things Are Changing For Writers. We Need to Change Too!

It's fair to say that writing as both a career and a vocation is changing right now, and The Write Practice needs to change with it.

We've been changing behind the scenes, adding book coaching tools like our query letter generator, focusing more on community, creating AI tools like writecoach.ai.

And we’re going to continue to change to help authors meet the challenges happening right now (for example, AI writing classes, an outlining agent, and more opportunities for peer-to-peer interaction to deepen our sense of connection).

Change is scary, but I also know that this community is resilient, curious, and, dare we say, even adventurous.

The Write Practice can be part of this transformation and can craft out a space for writers to do what we've always done: inspire, entertain, educate, and about all connect with our readers.

We may do things a little differently in the future, but we're not giving up on writers. Because we know what it’s like to wonder if your words matter. (They do.)

So if you believe in this community help us keep building it. For you. For your future readers. For every writer who’s still wondering if it’s possible for them to become an author. Let’s make sure the answer is yes.

I'd love your help. So leave a comment, or send me a note at joe@thewritepractice.com, and tell me how The Write Practice has helped you as well as how we can help you more in the future.

Thanks!

Thank You for Almost 15 Years of Helping Writers

I'm so honored to have gotten to lead and be part of this community since 2011. Sometimes I can't believe The Write Practice happened, and I'm so grateful for it and for your support over the last fifteen years.

Even if the way we support them changes, I hope this place will always exist as a resource for people with dreams of becoming authors.

Please consider helping us continue that important work. Sign up for something above, send us an email, or even just leave a comment. It helps, and I appreciate you so much.

Thanks for everything, and as always, happy writing.

The support of The Write Practice has been immeasurably helpful. It gave me needed information in how to write a book that has been in my mind for a very long time. The dream became reality through The Write Practice. Thank you.

Proud of you Lynn! You’re doing it!

  2. Sarah

I started my first novel in middle school, but thought I would only ever write for myself. It wasn’t until I was in my late thirties that I discovered The Write Practice. For the first time in my life, I let others read my work. Instead of being criticized I was inspired and motived to write more. To share more. Through my participation in the classes, I pushed myself to levels I didn’t think possible and formed amazing friendships. What Joe has created – first and foremost – is a safe space to share your writing and grow in your craft. The writing world would suffer a huge loss should this community dissolve.

Thank you Sarah! So proud of what you’ve accomplished!

  3. Evelyn Puerto

I’m saddened at even the thought of The Write Practice ceasing to exist. I’d still be floundering in the wilderness without the feedback and encouragement, not to mention the wonderful resources, that I found here.

I ran my first novel through 100 Day Book at least once (it might have been twice) and that boosted my amateurish first attempt into Flight of the Spark, which went on to win multiple awards.

It would have been impossible to get to where I am now without this community. By making a commitment to myself to post weekly, I’ve posted five more novels, and am working on a sixth. Critiquing others has taught me so much about spotting the errors in my own work, as well as honing my sense of what works well.

I’m so grateful for your courses that taught me so much. For the community that is always there, especially when writing feels like lonely drudgery, and the connections that I’ve made with other talented writers.
