What Should I Write About?
The great thing about social media is that you can write about, well, anything! But if you really want to connect with other authors and readers, you should remember to get them talking as well.
Just like you wouldn’t want to join a perpetual one-sided conversation, the best way to get—and keep—followers is to invite them into the discussion.
Even when you're sharing your work, you should think about what people are getting out of your posts. For example, are they getting writing tips? Encouragement? A book review or a new book to buy? A chance to give their own perspective or share their struggles?
Ask lots of questions, invite readers to share their opinions, and make your posts as interactive as you can. Your readers will thank you (perhaps quite literally in your replies!).
And don't forget to let your personality and writing style shine!
How do I use these prompts?
You can use these prompts in several different ways, depending on the social media platform you're using. For example, if you wanted to share what your writing routine looks like right now on Threads or Instagram, you might write a couple of sentences about your process plus a picture of your notebook or desk setup to go along with it.
If you're using Facebook, you might write a longer post, more like a blog post, with or without a picture.
If you're using TikTok or Instagram Live, you might take a video of your writing space and talk through your writing habits, along with the tools you like to use.
There are so many ways you can use these content ideas, which is what makes them so versatile—and reuable!

PRACTICE
Social media can be an incredible tool for book marketing and connecting with others in the writing and publishing community. Today, let's post something!
Set the timer for fifteen minutes, then draft a post based on one of the post ideas above. Think about what social media platform you'd like to use and even whether you'd add a picture to your post or not (and what it would be. If you're not sure, pets and coffee mugs are always a great choice. They definitely get me clicking!). When you're finished, share your post in The Write Practice Pro workshops, and leave some feedback for your fellow writers.

Happy writing!
Elizabeth Nettleton is an author and editor currently based in Oxfordshire, England. An avid reader and writer since childhood, she was once so engrossed in her book that she ran into a lamppost.
There is nothing Elizabeth loves more than magic and getting lost in other worlds (except for her family, friends, and pets, of course!), so she primarily writes fantasy, sci-fi, and horror. When she's not reading or writing, you can find her playing with her kids, daydreaming, or trying not to die in a video game.
